Hottarakashi Onsen is a serene hot spring retreat located in Yamanashi Prefecture, renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Fuji and the Kofu Basin.
The facility features two distinct open-air baths: Kocchi-no-Yu ("This Bath") and Acchi-no-Yu ("That Bath"). Kocchi-no-Yu provides a direct, unobstructed view of Mount Fuji. Acchi-no-Yu, being larger, offers expansive vistas of the Kofu Basin.
Situated approximately 90 minutes from Tokyo, this onsen offers a unique experience by opening one hour before sunrise, allowing visitors to soak in the natural hot springs while witnessing the dawn break over Japan's iconic peak.

Great prices (only 900 yen or $6 for a bath), and tattoo friendly, which was the main reason I picked this location. I stayed at the nearby Fruit Park Fujiya hotel and hiked about 35 minutes up to the Onsen. Very rural feel. I wish there’d been less fog for a better view of Fuji, but maybe next time.
This is a great family Onsen, divided male and female. Unlike so many, this one welcome folks with tattoos. several pools of varying temperature and spectacular view.
The place is entirely tattoo friendly. They have two separate onsen facilities both of which are the "buy a ticket at the machine and then hand to the person at the counter for entry" types, but both have nice outdoor baths that offer (if the atmospheric conditions are propitious) stunning views of Fujisan. You should bring yout own towel and you might want to bring any conditioner or body soap you like to use since just offer basic body wash and shampoo. I use this onsen as a stopover at end of my weekend getaways into the mountains, and its perfect for that since its easy in and out. Not sure if it would make a great destination in and of itself.
