Nizaemon‑no‑Yu is a charming day‑use hot spring resort tucked beside the Katsura River in Kyoto’s historic Katsura district—an area celebrated for moon viewing since the Heian era . It features two natural springs: one hot, one cold, both flowing freely from deep underground (600 m and 1,500 m respectively) .
Guests can enjoy a traditional Utsusemi stone-cave outdoor bath and a Fujitsubo cypress-roofed rocky outdoor pool surrounded by foliage and soothing mountain mist.
Perfect after exploring the Bamboo Grove or Katsura Imperial Villa, Nizaemon‑no‑Yu offers a tranquil, noble‑style retreat in Kyoto's countryside.

Apart from being a bit pricey, ¥800, the outside rotenburo spa, which is set in a beautiful location with relaxing scenery, more than makes up for it. Unlike some local bathhouses, the water isn't too hot although there are some hotter sections if you need them!
They have bath outside as well. Great place spend weekend morning fo me.
Amazing place to check out when you're out here. Very peaceful place with various settings. First is in a huge room, there are also hot and cold springs outdoors. Staff there are very friendly and help guide you if it's your first time. Things to remember as a girl: 1) tie up your hair 2) bring small face towel and body towel 3) shampoo/conditioner/body soap 4) flip flops 5) bring change in 100yen [for lockers]
