Gifu (岐阜県, Gifu-ken) is known for its historic thatched-roof village of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The prefecture is also home to the well-preserved Edo-era streets of Takayama and the traditional cormorant fishing on the Nagara River. The capital city is Gifu.
