About Kappa Tengoku

Kappa Tengoku Onsen is a cozy, conveniently located open-air onsen just a 3-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. Nestled on the wooded slopes above the station, it’s perfect for a relaxing soak either as soon as you arrive or before you depart.

The facility offers stone outdoor baths fed by its own natural fountainheads, a small footbath for a lighter dip, and minimal but sufficient amenities (soap, shampoo, hair dryers; towels available to rent) to make your visit comfortable. Thanks to its peaceful natural setting and ease of access, Kappa Tengoku makes for an ideal stop on a Hakone onsen-tour.

Does Kappa Tengoku Allow Tattoos?

Just an OK onsen

You get what you paid for (I know it's one of the lowest charge for onsen). It was advertised for 800 yen but we were charged 900 yen admission, additional 200 yen for a small towel (make sure you bring your own bath towel with you). The facility is very old and the atmosphere inside the osen is just OK. The locaation is convenient, it's just a 5 min walk/incline from the Hakone/Yumoto station.

I really enjoyed this

No frills onsen right by the train station. It was largely empty on a saturday. The bath was hott and water was very fresh. Price was great with towel rental and two 100jpy lockers. Great shirts with their funny character. For a day trip, it was perfect!

Traditional open air onsen.

The location is conveniently next to Hakone Station, meaning it is easy to go before travelling. Wonderful experience and very good price (¥900 + optional ¥300 for towel rental). Lockers are available and require ¥100 coins to operate, which are returned after use.
