Shimoyu Public Bathhouse

Shimoyu Public Bathhouse is one of the three traditional communal bathhouses in Zao Onsen, Yamagata Prefecture. Located near the entrance of Takayu-dori Street, it's just a short walk from the Zao Onsen Bus Terminal, making it easily accessible for visitors. ​

This unmanned facility offers a simple, authentic bathing experience with two gender-separated pools. The baths are filled with Zao Onsen's signature strongly acidic sulfur-rich waters, renowned for their skin-beautifying properties. The minimalist wooden interior provides a serene atmosphere, allowing bathers to immerse themselves in the therapeutic waters without distractions.​
